Why Astrophysics?

I read the book Death By Black Hole by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. This book is on the subject of astrophysics and has sparked a lot of my interest in it as well. I began being interested in the subject of astrophysics and finding out the answers to how the universe works since my friend Peter showed me a Neil DeGrasse Tyson video lecture. I am interested in the subject because of how broad it truly can be. There are many in's and out's of astrophysics and the cosmos. There is so much information to go with vast amount of space in the cosmos. For example there are the possibilities to extraterrestrial life as well as discovering the the truth of gravity with the explorations into the mysteries of dark matter. The universe and outer space is just so captivating. I always find myself looking up at the night sky on a clear  cool night. Like described in Death by Black Hole, to see out into the universe and recognize the bands of the Milky Way is to look back in time at our origins and at how our home was created. For one that is just utterly poetic and mind blowing to think about, but also inspiring and humbling to know that there is so much out there that has not been discovered. That vastness and expansiveness allows for astrophysicists and scientists to try to answer some of the human species timeless questions. However, this course of study is very complicated and complex. It takes a vast knowledge in math and science to be able to work in this field. That means for a high school student like myself astrophysics and the universes functions do not always make total sense. I consider myself an enthusiast of astrophysics and I want to learn more about it, but that is still light years away from the knowledge of researchers who study it full time.
